Curriculum and Programs

In order to ensure that our curriculum and programs are current and reflect the needs of our students, there will be a review on a regular basis. The 6-Year Review Cycle was presented to the Board of Education and approved in September 2007. We are adjusting the sequence of the 2009-2010 Review to coincide with the current District initiatives, coordinate with the foreign language adoption at the high school, and to complete the K-8 Science Adoption.

Our curriculum focus for this year will be to complete the K-8 Science Review that was started last year. We were able to complete the 6-8 Science Review but will be piloting two programs at the K-5 level. We will be piloting the McGraw-Hill Science Program at K-5 and a new National Geographic Program at K-2. We will collect data on both programs and develop a proposal to bring forward in the spring of 2010.

We will also be coordinating with the high school to review our foreign language program. We will look at our Spanish Program as well as opening the discussion of foreign language as a District-wide program.

Our program focus for this year will be Technology. A three-year Technology Plan will be submitted to the State in January 2010. We started our review in the spring of 2009 with a District/Community forum. We looked at where we are with Technology and started our plans for where we want to be in three years. We will work with sub-groups to develop our State Plan.
