Greetings! I am a Gifted Education Specialist here at Rutledge Hall School. This is especially exciting because I get to teach reading and writing to all three grades of students. My teaching philosophy includes creating a classroom that is a microcosm of the real world where students collaborate, create, present, and discover. Therefore, I look at my role as facilitator while the students are challenged to think critically and deeply. If they work hard and pay attention, they will leave my classroom more confident in their abilities as an academic achiever and more grounded in their sense of self-awareness.
In case you are curious about my background, this is my 8th year in District 74. Prior to this year, I spent time working at the Mirman School for Highly Gifted Children in Los Angeles, CA. I hold three gifted endorsements, a Master of Arts in Teaching (MA), and a bachelors degree (with high distinction) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Additionally, I hold a CA Certified Studio Teacher license. This means I am certified in both elementary and secondary education in CA (with an English specialty), and I am able to work on-set feature films and television shows with child actors. I not only teach them academics between scenes, but I am also the official welfare worker holding a firm grasp on the CA child labor laws and ensuring they are enforced. Before I began teaching, I worked full-time in film production. When I was seeking a change of pace, I obtained admission to Northwestern Law School (two years consecutively), but decided my skills would be better used to inspire kids. I am constantly seeking new opportunities to learn and therefore travel often, sometimes with my young goldendoodle, Tod!
Here's to an exhilirating adventure where students will be challenged to think differently, speak knowledgably, and explore widely!
