Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year!

Dear Lincolnwood Learning Community:

As your superintendent, I am thrilled to embark on this new academic journey alongside each of you. Whether you are returning for another exciting year or joining our community for the first time, we are honored to have you as part of our District. This year promises to be a time of growth, innovation, and connection – and we cannot wait to get started.

As we begin the year, I want to reflect on the guiding principles that shape everything we do. Our Strategic Plan sets forth a clear set of aspirations articulated through our Vision Statement:

To be the most welcoming and sought-after learning environment by:

  • Leading academic excellence through innovative instruction;
  • Developing high-school-ready learners with cutting-edge resources;
  • Cultivating a sense of belonging for all.

This vision is more than just a statement – it is our collective commitment. It reflects who we are, what we believe, and the future we are creating together for every student in our care.

Leading Academic Excellence Through Innovative Instruction

Academic success has always been at the heart of our mission. But today’s students live in a rapidly changing world that demands creativity, adaptability, and critical thinking. That’s why our educators are committed to developing learning opportunities that focus on high-leverage academic and interpersonal skills, creating a foundation of background knowledge that prepares students for the next steps in their educational journey.

Our teachers have spent the summer engaging in professional learning focused on new learning materials, enhanced programming to support new teachers, and developing learning activities centered on collaboration and problem-solving, so that every child is challenged, supported, and inspired.

Developing High-School-Ready Learners With Cutting-Edge Resources

We recognize that the foundation for long-term academic success is built well before students reach high school. Our District is deeply invested in ensuring every student has access to the tools, supports, and experiences they need to thrive at the next level of learning.

Through regular dialogue with colleagues at our high school district, members of our staff can take that knowledge and apply it to their classrooms to provide students with routines and expectations that will provide them with a preview of what is to come after they graduate from our District. Additionally, we annually survey alumni in their sophomore year of high school to learn in what areas we are best preparing students and where we have room to grow.

Additionally, new programs in literacy and math that range from kindergarten through eighth grade are better suited to help personalize instruction, engage students more deeply, and give teachers real-time insight into student progress as we prepare them for their education after SD74.

Cultivating a Sense of Belonging for All

We believe that every student deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued. Our schools should be places where each individual is treated with dignity and respect.

Creating a welcoming culture is an intentional effort, and that process starts on day one of the school year and continues each and every day. Teachers greeting students at the door, taking interest in their activities outside the classroom, establishing a classroom culture of respect and responsibility, and maintaining an environment where students are safe to make and learn from mistakes are all essential components to fostering the moments that bind students to each other and the larger school community.

A Shared Commitment

As we look ahead, we know that the success of our students depends on the strength of our partnership with families. You are your child’s first and most important teacher, and your engagement makes a difference. We encourage you to stay connected with your child’s school, attend events, ask questions, and share your ideas. Whether it’s volunteering in a classroom, serving on a school committee, or simply cheering your student on from home, your presence matters.

Consider joining the nonprofit organization called PALS (People Active with Lincolnwood Schools). PALS was created to strengthen and enrich the educational and social environment of SD74. The group will spearhead the planning of several events, and all parents, guardians, and community members are welcome to participate in the coordination and/or implementation of any or all of the activities on our calendar.

We are also committed to open and transparent communication. Throughout the year, you will receive regular updates from your school and the District, and we encourage you to become aware of the happenings in and around campus by regularly checking this website (sd74.org), Instagram (@lincolnwoodsd74), our X (formerly Twitter) feed (@lincolnwoodsd74), and the electronic newsletter called Tuesday Newsday (https://www.smore.com/app/my/newsletters) for announcements, reminders, and calendars of events. Your voice helps shape our progress and strengthens our community.

Looking Ahead

The start of a new school year is always full of possibilities, and this year, we aspire to maximize your child’s academic and interpersonal growth. We are committed to making our District not only a place where students succeed but a place where they love to learn, where staff love to teach, and where families feel proud to belong.

On behalf of our entire District team, thank you for entrusting us with your children. Let’s make this our best year yet!
