Welcome to our fourth grade classroom! I am looking forward to another school year.
This will be my 20th year teaching at Rutledge. I have a Master's degree in Teaching and Leadership and I am currently working on a Master's degree in Technology. Over the years I have found common characteristics of fourth graders. They are spirited and enthusiastic. Whether it’s a daily activity, a lesson, or a recess game, they care deeply about everything that is taking place in the classroom. They truly want to be involved with their school day. School is best for them when the teacher responds with a consistent and caring approach.
Fourth grade is a wonderful time in a student’s life. Students experience a great amount of growth this year. Teaching fourth grade is about setting high expectations for all students. The goal is to practice working independently and cooperatively, developing good study habits, and learning to always do their best work. I believe that all children are capable of learning. Although there are differences in learning styles and rates of learning for each individual child, the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of all students is continuous and sequential. So, a goal for this year is for every child to have a successful, productive, and exciting school experience.
