Dr. Seuss

This week was really Seussical!  We had a great time listening for rhyming words as we read many books by the famous author Dr. Seuss.  On Tuesday we wore our crazy socks and read the book Fox in Socks.  The children made fox in socks puppets so they could say the silly words like the fox.  On Wednesday we were super wacky! We loved all the crazy clothes. We read the book Wacky Wednesday.  The children had the chance to play with Oobleck.  It is a wacky kind of slime made up of cornstarch and water.  It feels hard but then becomes a liquid like substance. On Thursday we read the book My Many Colored Days.  It talked about how different days feel different ways.  We then finger painted our favorite colors. On Friday we wore our hats and read the book The Cat in the Hat.  The children turned themselves into the cat in the hat.  It was a silly week, but lots of fun. There is a great website - www.seussville.com you can check out at home.  Next week we will build on this theme by talking more about rhyming.

In our reading lessons this week, we talked about rhyming words and words that belong in the same family.  We also practiced our names and the names of our friends. In our math lessons, we started talking about measurement.  We talked about length and weight. The children played with balance scales to compare objects. In our writing lessons we practiced writing the letter Q.

On Friday we had the CASA presentation about being safe.  We talked about how no one expect our parents should touch our private parts, what is covered by our bathing suit.  The children then practiced saying NO, STOP!, running away, and telling a grown up.
