The Five Senses
This week we had so much exploring our classroom using our 5 senses. We read a nonfiction book each day to learn about each sense. The children had the opportunity to talk about the sense of touch while finger painting, the sense of smell while coloring with smelly markers, and sound while painting with marbles. Each day during snack we talked about how it tasted. We will continue to use the vocabulary we learned this week as we explore new concepts all year.
We are so lucky to be working with Mrs. Gussis (from Pre-K 202) again this year to learn about art. A few times a month, we will join the other Pre-K class and get an amazing art lesson. The children will then have the opportunity to create a masterpiece based on the work by the artist. So far, we have been introduced to Kandinsky and Klee. Here is the project the children completed during colors week:
Next week we will be talking about apples. We will learn how they grow, and we may even get to taste a few.
*If you are interested in helping at the classroom parties this year (Halloween, Winter, Valentine’s Day), the sign-up is now open. Look at the Tuesday Newsday sent from the district for more information.
Curriculum Lessons and Topics:
Math: Our lessons focused on exploring some of the materials we will be using this year during our math lessons. We also practiced sorting.
Handwriting/Reading: This week we started working on our handwriting books. The first lessons focused on holding the crayon correctly, aiming and making a little scribble. We played a few games to practice listening for the same and different sounds and talked about the first letters of our names.
STEM: Mr. Edman helped us explore our senses this week too. He brought some fun smelly cups to guess the scent and mystery socks to guess the object inside.
