Pete the Cat

What a groovy week with Pete the Cat.  The children enjoyed listening to many of the books and songs. On Tuesday we read the book Rocking in My School Shoes.  The children then painted a big class mural with some real shoes.  On Wednesday we read the book My Four Groovy Buttons.  We counted and sorted buttons at the light table.  We also marble painted our own groovy buttons. On Thursday we read the book A Pet for Pete.  The children cut out their painted buttons and glued them to a shirt.  We ended the week with the book I Love My White Shoes.  The children acted out the story and glued shapes to make a Pete the Cat.  We continued to practice all our classroom routines and procedures.

This week we also began our writing and math curriculum.  In our writing lessons the children learned the names of the wood pieces we will use to make letters later this year.  We also practiced position words (ex. above, below, around, etc.) and singing our ABC’s. In our math lessons we began talking about how to describe objects (attributes), such as by color and shape.

Next week we will be reading Clifford books.
