Transportation

This week we learned all about transportation.  We talked about all the ways we could get from one place to another - cars, bikes, trucks, trains, boats, planes and more.  The children had the opportunity to play with all kinds of transportation vehicles all week, including construction trucks, trains and cars.  Some of the books we enjoyed this week were Cars Galore by Peter Stein, Freight Train by Donald Crews, Mat Man on the Go, and Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems.  The children used cars to paint a class mural and used sponges to make a freight train just like in the story.  On Friday we created a pretend plane. The children needed to find the correct number seat before we could take off and ‘fly’ to school.

This week in our STEM lesson with Mrs. Joe the children used the same objects from last week to create their own toy.  Before they could create the toy, the children filled out a planning sheet to think out how their toy would smell, sound, look and feel.  We had some very interesting creations.

In our math lessons we continued learning about different attributes.  This week we focused on drawing a picture to solve a matching problem. We had to determine if we had enough of a certain  object for everyone. In our writing lessons the children began working in their writing books. This week we practiced finding the correct page, holding a crayon and coloring with little scribbles.  In our reading lessons, we continued to practice listening for different sounds. We also used our wood pieces to build some letters. During our read aloud stories we talked about the parts of the book and made some predictions about what we thought was going to happen in the story..

Next week we'll be learning about our community and the people who help us, such as doctors, mail carriers, teachers, nurses and more.
