Down on the Farm

This week we took a trip to the farm.  Each day we talked about different animals that live on the farm and of course the farmer who helps take care of them.  We enjoyed the books Barnyard Hullabaloo by Giles Andreae, Old MacDonald Had A Farm, Mrs. Wishy Washy by Joy Cowley, Who Took the Farmer’s Hat by Joan Nodset , and The Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown.  All week we played with farm animals in many of our centers and used our farm puppets to help tell our stories.  On Monday we painted a farm scene and then each day we made animals to add to the big red barn. Then on Friday the children put the whole project together and made up a story to go with their project.  Mr. Edman came in this week and helped us practice our direction words with BlueBot robots. We had to help the robots deliver the food from the farm to various places around the town. We are becoming good at putting in the correct code to make sure the robots go the right direction.

In our writing lessons the children practiced using tiny scribbles to color in blue and orange objects.  In our math lessons we continued to work on the concept of position. We worked on top, middle and bottom.  In our reading lessons we talked about words that rhyme. We also worked on recognizing the first letter of our name and identifying our feelings.

Next week we will talk about plants that are ready to be picked on the farm like corn and pumpkins.

This week the children were introduced to Reading Eggs.  It is an online computer program that helps build letter and sound recognition.  Each child has a unique login. We will be sending them home soon so you can play at home as well.  There is also a program called Mathseeds connected to the program. The children will be able to try this math program as well until the end of December.
