Down on the Farm
This week we took a visit to the farm to learn about all the animals that live there. We enjoyed the books Barnyard Hullabaloo, Big Red Barn, Punk Farm, and Mrs. Wishy Washy. The children used our farm puppets to act out and retell the stories. We also created some big farm animals and made a big group farm in the hallway. Mrs. Gussis introduced us to the artist Georgia O’Keeffe, who was born in Wisconsin and liked to paint farms. The children then used fingerpaint to make a barn.
Next week we will be talking about something that grows on the farm - pumpkins. We are very excited about Halloween on Thursday. Watch for more information this week.
Curriculum Lessons and Topics:
Math: This week we talked about sorting and ordinal numbers. The children had to line up, and we talked about who was first, second and third. We also learned how to draw a cross and a square.
Handwriting/Reading: This week we focused on the letter L. We talked about words that begin with this sound, such as lizard and lion. We learned how to write the letter and practiced making it with our wood pieces and play-doh. We introduced the concept of rhyming and making predictions about a book.
STEM: Mr. Edman talked about the farm this week too. He had eggs to balance and a pulley system to mimic how a well works. He also brought a big marble run that was so much fun.
