Pumpkins
We had so much fun this week learning about pumpkins. We did some investigating with a real pumpkin. We talked about what we saw on the outside, measured how tall it was and then cut it open to see what was inside. The children counted the seeds, and we carved a face to make a jack-o-lantern. The best part was when Mr. Edman made the pumpkin ooze foam (vinegar and baking soda)! Some of the books we enjoyed this week were A Plump and Perfect Pumpkin, Pete the Cat Five Little Pumpkins, and The Leaves Are Falling. Mrs. Gussis introduced us to the artist Yayoi Kusama. She was known as the princess of polka dots, and she liked to make polka dot pumpkins. The children made some beautiful ones that are currently decorating our hallway.
Next week we will be talking about autumn and all the changes we are seeing in the new season.
