All About Me!

This week the theme was All About Me.  The children loved sharing stories and facts about themselves.  The best part was sharing our family pictures! Thank you for sending them in.  They are now hanging up in our room for us to enjoy. If you have not had a chance to send one in, it is not too late.  Please send it in next week. We enjoyed a National Geographic Book titled All About Me.  We also read the books One Family by George Shannon and My Five Senses by Margaret Miller.  We started working on a project called My Book.  This will be an ongoing activity throughout the year.  It is a small book all about their favorite things. We also made a silly Mr. Potato Head.

Our writing lessons this week focused on the colors gray and black.  We also practiced drawing Mat Man. In our reading lessons this week we talked about the main character of a Mat Man story.  We also discussed the difference between a letter, a word and a sentence. The children practiced building the first letter of their names with the wood pieces and blue mats.  In our math lesson we talked about 3-D shapes, such as cube, cylinder, cone and sphere. We talked about which ones have flat sides and which ones role.

Next week we will be talking about turkeys and being thankful.  The district canned food drive for the Niles Township Food Pantry will be starting next week.  We will be collecting items from 11/12-12/7. It is a great way to teach the children about being thankful for what we have and how we can give back to others.

I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss the progress your child in making in Pre-k at our Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences.  If none of the times work or if you would prefer a morning time (8:00), please let me know.

This week we also visited Nurse Meg in the office.  All children participated in a hearing and vision screening.  If there are any concerns, you will be notified by the nurse.
