Gingerbread Man!

Run, run as fast as you can’t catch us!  We had so much fun this week reading some different versions of the gingerbread man.  We enjoyed the books The Gingerbread Man by Mara Alperin, The Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Campbell Ernst, The Gingerbread Man : 10 Fairy Tale Sounds by Parragon Books Ltd, and 10 Gingerbread Men by Ruth Galloway.  After we read each story we talked about how they were the same and different.  We created a Gingerbread Cafe in the kitchen area. We put on our chef hats and aprons and then sold gingerbread cookies and hot chocolate.  The children had fun writing up the orders and then baking the cookies. In the water table we rolled out gingerbread play-doh and made even more cookies.  Next week we will continue to read more versions of the gingerbread man. We will also be making some real sugar cookies to decorate and eat for snack.

In our reading lessons this week we talked about how some stories have a problem and solution.  We also discussed how the text in a book can look different and be in different places, such as above the picture and below the picture.  In our math lessons we talked about how to draw a picture to help us solve a math problem. We also introduced ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) to help us describe the position of an object.

On Friday we will be having a winter party to celebrate our last day before break.  The morning party will be from 8:45-9:30 and the afternoon party will be from 12:45-1:30.  All are welcome to join the fun!
