Winter Wonderland!

Happy New Year!  We spent the week welcoming everyone back to school and welcoming our new afternoon friends. We reviewed the school and classroom rules and practiced all our routines.  Our theme for the week was winter. We talked about things we will now see in this season. We made a few different snowmen, including one with our names. We enjoyed the books There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow by Lucille Colandro, Snowballs by Lois Ehlert, and a few nonfiction books about winter.  We made pretend snow people out of kinetic sand in the sensory table and rolled dice to make a snowman.  I am sure the children will be excited to play in the real snow outside this week!

In our reading lessons this week we talked about how to follow the text in a book, compared fiction and nonfiction texts, and practiced the capital letters..  In our math lessons we talked about patterns and how they have to repeat. We read the book Lots and Lots of Zebra Stripes: Patterns in Nature by Stephen Swinburne.  We talked about how patterns are all around us, especially on many animals.  We even looked for patterns when we went outside. In our writing lessons, we practiced making the letters H and T, and the number 3.
