Who are the people in your neighborhood?

Who are the people in your neighborhood?

It has been a very exciting week in Pre-K as we have been discussing what it means to live in a community and community helpers.  We would like to give a special shout out to Dr. Sargon, Officer Martin, Crossing Guard – JoJo, Nurse Meg and Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to speak with our students about your important roles within our community!

This week we focused on letters H & T, asking and responding to questions, making predictions, rhyming words and practicing how to correctly grip a crayon for writing.  We have talked about the concepts of above and below and in and out as well as following simple 2-3 step directions.

The children have transformed parts of the room into a doctor’s office, mailroom, restaurant, and Police station. Utilizing the Buildopolis building pieces to create a simple structure, we created a doctor’s office complete with x-rays to use with the light table, sign-in sheets, eye chart, medical checklist and pretend doctor’s kit.  We then transformed the same space into a police station complete with a Wanted poster for the big bad wolf.  In the kitchen area, the children played restaurant and hosted tea parties. In the writing area, the children wrote notes to friends and family members.

We look forward to continuing the fun next week as we talk about Fire Safety and learn the importance of what to do in case of a fire at home and school,  how to dial 9 -1-1 in case of an emergency and meeting members of Lincolnwood’s fire department.

I hope all of you enjoy the extended weekend.
