Dear Lincolnwood Learning Community,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. As we begin a new school year, there are always a wide range of emotions, from excitement to nervousness and anticipation. This year is like no other year we have experienced. This letter is to provide you with more information along with a glimpse into some of the changes you may see or hear about in the District.

Grades PK- K: Orientation sessions will be held on Wednesday, August 26 with a start of school on August 27 with families choosing either in-person or remote learning.

Grades 1- 4: Students will begin on Tuesday, August 25 with families choosing either in-person or remote learning.

Grades 5-8: In order to implement some of the medical advice and safety protocols students will attend remotely from August 25 through August 28. Students will begin on Monday, August 31 with families choosing either in-person or remote learning.

Daily Schedule

Todd Hall: 8:45 a.m - 3:15 p.m.

AM Pre-K: 8:45 a.m - 11:30 a.m.

PM Pre-K: 12:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.

Rutledge Hall: 8:15 a.m. - 2:45 p.m

Lincoln Hall: 8:20 a.m. - 2:39 p.m.

  • Self Certification - Each day all staff and families will fill out a self certification questionnaire. This will be sent from the District.

  • Buses - Students will board busses at historic stops. A staff member will temperature screen students before they get on the bus. If a child has a temperature of 100.0 or higher, they must stay home. Please have a parent or guardian with your child at the stop, in case they have a temperature of 100.0 or higher. The bus will be sanitized before students ride the bus and in between routes. Students will sit one student per bench unless they are from the same household.

  • Arrival/ Dismissal - Families may begin dropping off 15 minutes prior to the start of school for each building (see the table above for start times). Families should follow the same drop off pattern as in previous years. There will be designated doors during arrival and dismissal. All staff and students will be temperature screened prior to entering the building. If a student/staff member has a temperature of 100.0 or higher, they will be sent home.

  • Face Coverings - Face coverings must be worn by students and staff throughout the day while indoors. The District will have two reusable face coverings for each student.

  • Schedule - Todd Hall/Rutledge Hall - Students will remain in their homerooms for most instruction, including the specials teachers rotating to each homeroom. Each day your child’s schedule will include Literacy, Math, Social Studies or Science, Lunch, Recess, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and one special class (Art, Music, PE, Library, STEM).

Lincoln Hall - Lincoln Hall will have a five period block schedule with an advisory period periodically. Class times are 65 minutes per day. This gives every student a “Red Day” schedule where they will attend their first five classes, and then a “Grey Day” schedule where students will attend the other five classes. (See below for sample daily schedules for each school.

  • Lunch - Lunch will be eaten in classrooms, which will be cleaned before and after consumption of food. Students and supervisors will also have the opportunity to eat outside depending on availability of space and weather. As necessary, space will be allocated for any student with allergy sensitivities.

  • Recess/Outdoor Opportunities - Weather permitting, students will have the opportunity to be outside, appropriately distance, and have a mask break, relax their brains, and engage in physical activity.

  • Hallway/Transitions/Coat Hooks - Hallway usage will be limited throughout the day.  This includes the use of coat hooks and shelves to store items.  Most materials and belongings will be kept within the classroom. At the middle school, students will not be using lockers at the beginning of the school year. They will carry materials in backpacks. Attention will be given to ensure backpacks are not too heavy for students. The District website (www.sd74.org) has an updated supply list with quantities of items students should bring to school.

  • Remote Learning Choice - Students working remotely will follow the same schedule as in-person learners. This means remote learners will log into Zoom for instruction at specific times in the day. A schedule for the day with login information will be given to remote learners. Teachers will also post activities and assignments that students will complete on their own. These will be times when students can step away from their computers.

For further details, a more in-depth document can be found SD74 Reopening Plan 20-21 HERE

Throughout the year, the District will evaluate plans based on any changing State guidance. We are so excited to welcome students across campus and are committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for your child to learn and grow. The Building Leadership Team hopes this glimpse into daily routines will help you in filling out the District’s Starting School Family Feedback HERE and we look forward to reconnecting with everyone soon!
