Farm Life
We had an exciting week that focused on farm life, including animals, crops, and machinery. In previous weeks, we have been preparing to write our capital letters by using crayons to make vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. This week, we completed our first letter, L! We found items around the room that begin and end with the L sound, as well as practicing our best handwriting. In your child’s backpack, you will find an L writing sheet, if you would like to practice with them.
In math, we focused on the different ways we can show the number 1. Whether showing it numerically, by the word one, a picture, finger, domino dot, tally mark, or connecting cube, we practiced the many ways we can use to show numbers.
Art with Mrs. Gussis also connected to our farm unit when she guided us through the Chicago favorite, American Gothic. The children learned about realism and the background of artist Grant Wood and the characters and scenes he used for the famous painting. The students used mini-harvest corn cobs and husks to roll in paint and make their own art.
